What are the supply chains of chemical suppliers?
The supply chain of chemical suppliers mainly includes three parts: upstream, midstream, and downstream.
Upstream suppliers
Upstream suppliers provide raw materials and key components, including biological materials (such as cell culture media, antigens/antibodies, diagnostic enzymes, etc.), chemical reagents (basic materials, fine chemicals), pharmaceutical equipment (bioreactors, sterilization equipment), and packaging materials (glass bottles, plastic products). The quality and supply stability of these raw materials and equipment are crucial for midstream producers.
Midstream producers
Midstream producers include biological reagent manufacturers (molecular, protein, and cellular reagents) and chemical reagent suppliers. Domestic manufacturers are gradually breaking through in segmented fields, such as Yiqiao Shenzhou and Baipu Saisi in the field of recombinant protein reagents, and Novozymes in the field of molecular reagents. These manufacturers not only provide standard products, but also customize special chemicals according to customer needs.
Downstream customers
Downstream customers mainly include research institutions (67.3%), pharmaceutical companies (CRO/CMO/CDMO enterprises), medical diagnostic institutions, and end consumers. Research institutions and pharmaceutical companies have a high demand for chemicals, as well as high requirements for product quality and stability. Therefore, supply chain management and quality control are particularly important.
